What They SHOULD Be

"When we treat people merely as they are, they will remain as they are.  When we treat them as if they were what they should be, they will become what they should be." ~ Thomas S. Monson

I love this quote.  It makes me think about what I want my children to become and how I treat them.  It makes me think about who I want my husband to be and I wonder if I encourage him.

Today as I read this quote, it made me think about how I treat myself.  It made me ponder who I want to become as a mother, as a friend, as a professional and especially who I want to be as a wife.  Do I treat myself in a way that will help me become who I want to be?  It is hard to talk nicely or treat yourself nicely, when you are trying to measure up to a level of perfection that is unrealistic.

I want to ask you a few questions.  Please take a minute to really think about your answers.  If you are feeling ready for an eye opening experience, grab a pencil and write down your answers.

1- When you, your husband or your marriage fails to measure up to the perfect picture you have created in your mind, what kind of thoughts do you have?

2- When you have those thoughts, how do they make you feel?

3- When you feel that way how do you usually act around your husband and family?

4- When you act this way, how do things usually work out for you?

The culmination of the above questions will determine the results in your life.  Always.

The way we think and treat ourselves, sets off a chain reaction that always manifests in our results.  Why don't you just decide right now, that even if you have a bad day, your husband has a bad day or your marriage has a bad day, week, month or even a year, that you will still think, speak and treat all involved as if "they were what they should be"?  When we choose to look for the good, we will find the good.  When we choose to treat others as good, then we get to be a part of their story.

How do you choose to think about yourself?  How many negative sentences do you tell yourself about your marriage each day?  Contact me here to schedule a free 20 minute mini session with me, and together we can navigate the road to where you really want to be.
